About Us
Meet Tahris! – Transformation and Healing through Restorative, Inclusive Self-care.
Mission Statement
Tahris! is on a mission to redefine self-care by crafting natural, hypoallergenic, and eco-friendly products made from indigenous and sustainable ingredients. We blend wellness with empowerment—ensuring that every product supports your well-being, the planet, and the local economy.
Our Story
Born in Zimbabwe, powered by young changemakers, and nurtured by a desire to see wellness accessible to all - Tahris! was founded to bridge the gap between traditional wisdom and modern health needs.
In Zimbabwe, individuals with health sensitivities such as asthma, eczema, and contact dermatitis often face challenges in accessing affordable and safe self-care products. Many commercially available options contain synthetic chemicals like phthalates and parabens, which have been linked to adverse health effects, including hormonal disruptions, reproductive issues, and allergic reactions. For instance, phthalates, commonly used in fragrances, have been associated with insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, hormonal imbalances, and fertility problems. Additionally, synthetic fragrances in personal care products have been linked to skin irritations such as dermatitis. ‘Organic’ alternatives are rather expensive, leaving millions vulnerable.
Compounding this issue, approximately 80% of Zimbabwe's population relies on traditional medicinal plants for primary healthcare needs. However, these natural remedies have yet to be widely integrated into the self-care industry, leaving a significant gap in the market for products that are both effective and safe for individuals with health sensitivities.
Our focus is on bridging the self-care gap while aligning with Global Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being). For example, our asthma-safe perfumes use essential oils instead of synthetic chemicals, improving accessibility for individuals with respiratory conditions. By sourcing locally and globally, and adopting eco-friendly practices, we contribute to Global Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). While we currently purchase essential oils due to inadequate resources and funding, we aspire to produce them in-house using indigenous and global plants. We will use cold-pressing, a clean extraction method where production plant waste will be composted for farming. Additionally, Tahris! aims to create 120+ jobs by 2030, addressing Global Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by empowering local communities through employment and ethical sourcing.
